Short answer
For a non-technical founder who wants to stay in a chat and a preview, Lovable is the gentler tool: the code stays out of the way until you want it, and it syncs two ways with GitHub on every plan, including the free one.
For someone who wants to see and change the code, run several agents at once, or build a mobile app in the same project, Replit is the broader tool: its Agent works inside a full cloud workspace with a database, login and hosting included.
On price, Replit Core is $20 a month ($18 billed yearly) with $20 of usage included, against €25 a month for Lovable Pro's 100 credits. Both cost more in a busy month: Replit bills work beyond your credits by effort, Lovable sells top-ups and bills its Cloud backend after a monthly grant.

Building the first version. Both start from a sentence; they differ in what you see while they work.
Replit Agent plans the steps, writes the code and tests it in real time, then keeps testing the app in a browser in a reflection loop, fixing what it finds and reporting back. It searches the web when it needs current information, and you can turn on Extended Thinking and high-power models for harder requests.
Everything happens in a workspace that shows the files, so you can follow what the Agent changes or edit it yourself. Pro runs up to ten agents in parallel.
Lovable gives you three ways to work: a Chat mode to think, a Plan mode that writes out what it will do, and a Build mode that changes the app. A code editor, version history and design systems are there when you want them, but the chat and the preview are the whole interface by default.
When a feature needs a backend, such as accounts or file uploads, Lovable turns on its Cloud backend for you or asks first, depending on your workspace settings.
If you never want to see a file tree, Lovable will feel calmer. If you want to learn how your app works, or a developer will join soon, Replit shows more from day one.
Backend and data. Both include one; they bill it differently.
Replit includes a PostgreSQL database, user authentication and app storage, and connects to services like Stripe and OpenAI while keeping your keys secure. Pro adds database rollback up to 28 days.
Credits cover building with Agent, publishing (hosting your app) and database operations; usage beyond them is billed pay-as-you-go.
Lovable Cloud is a full backend built on Supabase's open-source foundation: a Postgres database, authentication, storage, realtime updates and edge functions. You can also connect your own Supabase project instead.
Running the app, from database to storage and traffic, is billed in credits after a monthly Cloud grant.
Your code, and leaving later. One syncs it out, the other keeps it in a workspace you can open.
On Replit the code lives in your workspace, where you or a developer can edit any file directly, without leaving the tool.
Lovable exports and syncs your code two ways with GitHub on every plan, including Free, so a developer can open it in their own editor, work on branches and deploy elsewhere.
If having the code in your own GitHub from the first day matters, Lovable does it on every plan.
Mobile apps. Replit builds them; Lovable leaves it to you.
Replit Agent builds mobile apps from a prompt alongside web apps, in the same project, with no separate mobile setup.
Lovable builds web apps and has no built-in flow to the App Store or Google Play. Its documentation suggests making the app installable as a PWA, or wrapping it with Capacitor outside Lovable when you need native features.

On entry price Replit is a little cheaper: Core is $20 a month, or $18 billed yearly, and includes $20 of usage, against €25 a month for Lovable Pro with 100 credits (Lovable offers two months free on yearly billing). Lovable has a free plan; Replit's pricing page lists none.
What you really pay depends on the work. Replit's Agent spends more credits the longer it works, and usage beyond your plan is billed by effort, with alerts and a hard budget to cap it. Lovable charges credits per message, sells top-ups, and bills running the app on Cloud after the monthly grant.
Which one to pick. It depends on what you're building and who will maintain it.
Pick Replit if
- You want to see and edit the code as the app grows, in the same tool.
- You need a mobile app as well as a web app.
- You want several agents working in parallel (Pro).
- You want one place for the agent, the database, hosting and monitoring.
Pick Lovable if
- You don't write code and want to stay in a chat and a preview.
- You want your code in GitHub from day one, on any plan.
- You want a standard Postgres backend on Supabase's foundation.
- You care most about a polished web interface and fast iteration on the design.
A third option · our product
Want a native app on the stores, or to build from Claude or ChatGPT? That's where Capacity fits.
Capacity builds full-stack web apps and native mobile apps (Expo projects you submit to TestFlight and Google Play), and puts a custom domain on every paid plan. You can also connect it to Claude, ChatGPT or Mistral and build from the chat, with your own subscription writing the code, on fixed monthly plans.
Its web app has no free plan for building (plans start at $25 a month; Capacity Desktop has a free plan with one project), login is added with Clerk or Supabase rather than built in, and in the web app your code downloads as a zip; Capacity Desktop pushes it to your own GitHub.
Questions people ask. Short answers, with the details above.
Is Lovable better than Replit?
Neither is better for everyone. Lovable is better if you want to stay in a chat and a preview and have your code in GitHub on any plan. Replit is better if you want to see and edit the code, build a mobile app too, or run several agents at once.
Lovable or Replit for a non-technical founder?
Lovable asks less of you: the chat and the preview are the whole interface, and the code stays out of the way. Replit is also built for people without coding experience, but its workspace shows the technical side, which helps if you want to learn it and can be a lot if you don't.
Which is cheaper, Lovable or Replit?
Replit Core starts at $20 a month ($18 billed yearly) with $20 of usage included; Lovable Pro is €25 a month for 100 credits, and Lovable has a free plan. What you pay depends on usage: Replit bills extra Agent work by effort, Lovable sells credit top-ups and bills its Cloud backend after a monthly grant.
Does Replit have a free plan?
Replit's pricing page lists Core, Pro and Enterprise, and no free plan. Its Agent page invites you to get started free; check the pricing page for what that includes before you build.
Can Lovable or Replit build mobile apps?
Replit's Agent builds mobile apps alongside web apps in the same project. Lovable builds web apps and points you to a PWA or a Capacitor wrapper for the stores.
Can I take my code from Lovable or Replit?
Lovable syncs your code two ways with GitHub on every plan. On Replit, your code lives in a workspace where you or a developer can edit every file.
Lovable vs Replit vs Bolt?
All three build web apps from a prompt and host them. Bolt.new runs in your browser, bills in tokens and has the most generous free plan of the three; Lovable keeps you in a chat and syncs to GitHub; Replit adds a full code workspace, mobile apps and parallel agents. Our Lovable alternatives and Replit alternatives pages compare them with other tools.
Which is better for a SaaS, Lovable or Replit?
Both can host a SaaS with a database and login. Lovable's Postgres backend on Supabase's foundation and its GitHub sync make the handover to developers straightforward; Replit keeps everything, including the code, the database and hosting, in one workspace with rollback and monitoring.
