What is Capacity? An AI app builder for people who don't code

You describe an app in plain words. Capacity builds it, hosts it and puts it on your domain, from its own app, from the AI you already use, or on your Mac.

In one paragraph

Capacity (capacity.so) is an AI app builder. You describe a website, a web app or a mobile app, and an AI agent writes the code, shows you a live preview and publishes it at a capacity.studio address or on your own domain. You can build in the Capacity app with its built-in agent, from Claude, ChatGPT or Mistral through the Capacity connector, where your own subscription does the writing, or on your Mac with Capacity Desktop. Plans start at $25 a month.

What it builds. From a sentence to a published app.

  • Websites and client-side apps in React, Tailwind and shadcn/ui.
  • Full-stack web apps with a server and their own database.
  • Native mobile apps: Expo projects you submit to TestFlight and Google Play from the publish dialog, with your own store accounts.
  • A copy of an existing page with the website cloner, rebuilt as a project you keep editing.

Three ways to build. The same apps, from where you already work.

In the Capacity app

Describe the app in a sentence and the built-in Capacity agent builds it, with a live preview. You choose the model (Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5, Fable 5.1, Mistral Large 4 or Kimi K3) or leave it on Auto. Each message uses credits from your plan.

From Claude, ChatGPT or Mistral

Add Capacity as a connector and ask for an app in the chat. Your own AI subscription writes the code; Capacity builds, previews, hosts and publishes it. This never uses Capacity credits and is unlimited on every paid plan. In ChatGPT it needs developer mode until Capacity is listed in the app directory.

Capacity for Claude

On your Mac, with Capacity Desktop

A macOS app that builds on your own computer with your own AI accounts, and pushes the code to your own GitHub. It has a free plan with one project, and a lifetime license for $249 once.

Capacity Desktop

What it costs. Monthly plans for the web app.

PlanPriceCredits for the Capacity agent
starter$25/month100 a month
growth$69/month250 a month
professional$129/month500 a month
business$299/month1,000 a month

Every paid plan includes:

  • Unlimited building from Claude, ChatGPT and Mistral
  • Unlimited projects
  • Hosting at a capacity.studio address, and custom domains
  • A full version history: restore any earlier version
  • Your full code as a zip download

Credits only power the built-in agent; each message uses a variable amount depending on the task, and credits never expire. Capacity Desktop is priced separately: a free plan with one project, or $249 once.

What it doesn't do. So you can decide before you pay.

  • There's no free plan for building in the web app: paid plans start at $25 a month. Capacity Desktop has a free plan with one project.
  • User login isn't built in: you add it with the Clerk extension or a Supabase connection.
  • In the web app your code downloads as a zip; pushing to your own GitHub is a Capacity Desktop feature.
  • Capacity Desktop runs on macOS for now.
  • The community and template library are younger than those of older builders like Lovable or Bubble.

Questions people ask. Short answers.

What is Capacity?

Capacity is an AI app builder for people who don't code. You describe an app in plain words, and Capacity builds it, hosts it and puts it on your domain. You can build in the Capacity app, from Claude, ChatGPT or Mistral through its connector, or on your Mac with Capacity Desktop.

How much does Capacity cost?

Starter is $25 a month with 100 credits, Growth $69 with 250, Professional $129 with 500, and Business $299 with 1,000. Credits only power the built-in agent and never expire; building from Claude, ChatGPT or Mistral is unlimited on every paid plan. Capacity Desktop is $249 once, with a free plan for one project.

Is Capacity free?

Signing up and connecting Claude or ChatGPT is free, but building in the web app needs a paid plan, from $25 a month. Capacity Desktop has a free plan with one project.

Can Capacity build mobile apps?

Yes. Capacity builds Expo projects that you submit to TestFlight and Google Play from its publish dialog, with your own Apple and Google developer accounts.

Do I own the code?

Yes. On every paid plan you can download the full code as a zip, and Capacity Desktop pushes it to your own GitHub.

How is Capacity different from Lovable or Bolt?

All three build apps from a description and host them. Capacity also builds from inside Claude, ChatGPT and Mistral with your own subscription, ships native mobile apps, and puts a custom domain on every paid plan. Lovable syncs your code to GitHub on every plan and has a free plan; Bolt bills in tokens and has a generous free plan. Our comparisons go into the details.

Who makes Capacity?

Capacity was founded in late 2024 by Samuel Rondot and Baptiste Studer.
