Short answer
For a SaaS you plan to grow and hand to developers one day, Lovable is the safer base: its backend is Postgres on Supabase's open-source foundation, and your code syncs two ways with GitHub on every plan, including the free one.
For a non-technical founder who wants login, data, payments and integrations handled with the least setup, Base44 is quicker and cheaper to start: $16 a month billed yearly against €25 a month for Lovable Pro. Its GitHub sync starts on the Builder plan.
If you need an app in the App Store or Google Play, neither builds a native app: Base44 wraps your web app in a native web view and helps you submit it, and Lovable points you to a PWA or a Capacitor wrapper you set up yourself.

Building the first version. Both start from a sentence; they differ in what they ask of you.
You describe the app and Base44 builds the whole thing at once: pages, logic, database, login and payments. You refine it in the chat or in a visual editor, and connect tools like Gmail, Slack, Notion, Google Drive or HubSpot in a click.
Paid plans add in-app code edits, and from Builder up you can choose the AI model.
Lovable gives you three ways to work: a Chat mode to think, a Plan mode that writes out what it will do, and a Build mode that changes the app. A code editor, version history and design systems are there when you want them.
When a feature needs a backend, such as accounts or file uploads, Lovable turns on its Cloud backend for you or asks first, depending on your workspace settings.
Independent comparisons that ran the same prompt in both tend to find Lovable's interface more polished and Base44's first draft more complete in features. Try your own prompt in both free plans before choosing.
Backend and data. Where your users and records live.
Every Base44 plan includes an integrated backend: database, authentication and user management, cloud storage and an analytics dashboard. You don't set any of it up, and you don't see much of it either.
Third-party services you connect, like Stripe or SendGrid, bill you directly; Base44 says there are no other fees beyond the plan.
Lovable Cloud is a full backend built on Supabase's open-source foundation: a Postgres database, authentication, storage, realtime updates and edge functions, with the database's size adjustable as the app grows and data export from its settings.
You can also connect your own Supabase project instead. Running the app, from database to storage and traffic, is billed in credits after a monthly Cloud grant.
Your code, and leaving later. Both say you own what you build; the difference is when you can take it.
Base44 says you own your code, your data and your users, and that two-way GitHub sync exports the full source code to your own repository at any time. That GitHub integration is part of the Builder plan and above.
Lovable exports and syncs your code two ways with GitHub on every plan, including Free, so a developer can open it in their own editor, work on branches and deploy elsewhere. Enterprise adds GitHub Enterprise, cloud or self-hosted.
If you expect to hire developers later, both paths work, but Lovable gets you there on any plan and on a standard Postgres database.
Mobile apps. Neither one builds a native app.
Base44 apps are web apps that work on phones. To be in the stores, Base44 wraps your published app in a native web view, scans it against Apple's and Google's rules, generates the store files and can add push notifications. Downloading those files needs the Builder plan or higher, and you bring your own developer accounts.
Lovable builds web apps only and has no built-in flow to the App Store or Google Play. Its documentation suggests making the app installable as a PWA, or wrapping it with Capacitor outside Lovable when you need native features. The Lovable mobile app is for building from your phone, not for publishing yours.

On entry price Base44 is cheaper: $16 a month billed yearly for Starter, against €25 a month for Lovable Pro (Lovable also offers two months free on yearly billing). Base44's monthly billing costs about 20% more than the yearly prices shown here.
What you really pay depends on usage. On Base44, every message to the AI uses message credits and connected services use integration credits. On Lovable, building uses credits and so does running the app on Cloud, its database, storage and traffic, once the monthly Cloud grant is used. A busy app on Lovable costs more than the sticker price; a busy month of changes costs more on both.
Which one to pick. It depends on what you're building and who will maintain it.
Pick Base44 if
- You don't write code and want login, data, payments and integrations handled for you.
- You're building an internal tool, a client portal or a workflow app more than a product to scale.
- You want the lowest entry price and a domain included on every paid plan.
- You want a store listing from the same tool, and a web view is enough for your app.
Pick Lovable if
- You're building a SaaS you plan to grow, with real data, roles and payments.
- You want your code in GitHub from day one, on any plan.
- You want a standard Postgres backend that developers recognise.
- You care most about a polished interface and fast iteration on the design.
A third option · our product
Need a native app, or want to build from Claude or ChatGPT? That's where Capacity fits.
Capacity builds full-stack web apps and native mobile apps (Expo projects you submit to TestFlight and Google Play), and puts a custom domain on every paid plan. You can also connect it to Claude, ChatGPT or Mistral and build from the chat, with your own subscription writing the code.
Its web app has no free plan for building (plans start at $25 a month; Capacity Desktop has a free plan with one project), login is added with Clerk or Supabase rather than built in, and in the web app your code downloads as a zip; Capacity Desktop pushes it to your own GitHub.
Questions people ask. Short answers, with the details above.
Is Base44 better than Lovable?
Neither is better for everyone. Base44 is better if you want the backend, login, payments and integrations handled with the least setup and the lowest entry price. Lovable is better if you're building a SaaS you plan to grow, with a Postgres backend and your code in GitHub on every plan.
Which is better for building a SaaS, Base44 or Lovable?
For a SaaS you plan to grow and maintain, Lovable is the safer base because of its standard Postgres backend and GitHub sync on every plan. Base44 is quicker for a first version you validate with customers, and it can sync to GitHub from its Builder plan.
Which is cheaper, Base44 or Lovable?
Base44 starts lower: $16 a month billed yearly for Starter, against €25 a month for Lovable Pro. Both have free plans. Your real cost depends on how many AI messages you send and, on Lovable, how much your published app uses its Cloud backend.
Can I export my code from Base44?
Yes. Base44 says you own your code and that two-way GitHub sync exports the full source to your own repository. The GitHub integration is included from the Builder plan, $40 a month billed yearly.
Does Lovable use Supabase?
Lovable's built-in backend, Lovable Cloud, is built on Supabase's open-source foundation: Postgres, authentication, storage, realtime and edge functions, without setting up Supabase yourself. You can also connect your own Supabase project.
Which is easier for a non-technical founder?
Base44 asks less of you: it builds the backend, login and payments in one go and hides most of the technical side. Lovable is also built for non-developers, but it shows more of how the app works, which helps if you plan to hand it to developers later.
Can Base44 or Lovable build mobile apps?
Both build web apps that work on phones. Base44 can wrap your app in a native web view and help you submit it to the App Store and Google Play (store files need the Builder plan). Lovable has no built-in store flow and suggests a PWA or a Capacitor wrapper.
Is Base44 owned by Wix?
Yes. Wix acquired Base44 in 2025, and Base44's documentation lets you buy a domain for your app through Wix.
Can I move my app from Base44 to Lovable, or the other way?
Not directly. Both can push your code to GitHub (Base44 from the Builder plan), but each builder rebuilds the app on its own backend. In practice you move by describing the app again in the other tool and migrating your data.
