Short answer
They're close. Both build a hosted web app with a database and user login from a prompt, both have a Plan mode, and both start at about the same price: €25 a month for Lovable Pro, $25 for Bolt Pro.
Pick Lovable if you want your code in GitHub from day one: it syncs two ways on every plan, on a Postgres backend built on Supabase's foundation. It counts credits per message.
Pick Bolt if you'd rather try a lot for free (1M tokens a month) or start from a Figma file or a GitHub repository. It counts tokens, and on Pro unused tokens roll over to the next month.

Building the first version. Both start from a sentence and a plan.
Lovable gives you three ways to work: a Chat mode to think, a Plan mode that writes out what it will do, and a Build mode that changes the app. A code editor, version history and design systems are there when you want them.
When a feature needs a backend, such as accounts or file uploads, Lovable turns on its Cloud backend for you or asks first, depending on your workspace settings.
Bolt also lets you plan first or build now, for a website, an app, slides or a prototype, and you can start from a Figma file, a GitHub repository or a team template. You can select an element in the preview to change it.
Its agent comes in two strengths: Standard for everyone, and Max on Pro for complex features and large apps. Bolt picks the model for each task and tests and refactors as it goes.
Most people who compare them run the same prompt in both free plans. Bolt's free tokens go further for a first look; Lovable's daily credits are enough for a few rounds of changes.
Backend and data. Both include one; Lovable's is the more standard.
Lovable Cloud is a full backend on Supabase's open-source foundation: a Postgres database, authentication, storage, realtime updates and edge functions. You can also connect your own Supabase project.
Running the app, from database to storage and traffic, is billed in credits after a monthly Cloud grant.
Bolt Cloud includes hosting, unlimited databases, user management and authentication, and integrations, with analytics and custom domains. Pro adds expanded database capacity and a choice of database provider.
Hosting is measured in web requests: up to 333K on Free and up to 1M on Pro.
Your code. Lovable syncs it out; Bolt can start from a repository.
Lovable exports and syncs your code two ways with GitHub on every plan, including Free, so a developer can open it in their own editor, work on branches and deploy elsewhere.
Bolt can start a project from a GitHub repository, and Teams adds private NPM registries and design-system knowledge per package, which suits teams building on existing code.
If having the code in your own GitHub on any plan matters most, Lovable states it plainly.

On sticker price they're level: Lovable Pro is €25 a month (two months free on yearly billing), Bolt Pro $25 a month billed monthly (up to 28% less yearly).
They meter differently. Lovable counts credits per message, sells top-ups, and bills its Cloud backend after a monthly grant. Bolt counts tokens, which grow with the size of the project, and on Pro rolls unused tokens over to the next month.
Which one to pick. It depends on what you're building and who will maintain it.
Pick Lovable if
- You want your code in GitHub from day one, on any plan.
- You want a standard Postgres backend on Supabase's foundation.
- You care most about a polished interface and fast iteration on the design.
- You'd rather count messages than tokens.
Pick Bolt.new if
- You want the most free usage to try ideas (1M tokens a month).
- You're starting from a Figma file or a GitHub repository.
- You want unused usage to roll over to next month (Pro).
- You also build slides, websites and prototypes in the same tool.

Need a native app, or want to build from Claude or ChatGPT? That's where Capacity fits.
Capacity builds full-stack web apps and native mobile apps (Expo projects you submit to TestFlight and Google Play), and puts a custom domain on every paid plan. You can also connect it to Claude, ChatGPT or Mistral and build from the chat, with your own subscription writing the code.
Its web app has no free plan for building (plans start at $25 a month; Capacity Desktop has a free plan with one project), login is added with Clerk or Supabase rather than built in, and in the web app your code downloads as a zip; Capacity Desktop pushes it to your own GitHub.
Questions people ask. Short answers, with the details above.
Is Lovable better than Bolt?
They're close, so it depends on what you value. Lovable syncs your code to GitHub on every plan and runs on a Postgres backend built on Supabase's foundation. Bolt has the larger free plan, starts from Figma or GitHub, and rolls unused tokens over on Pro.
Which is cheaper, Lovable or Bolt?
Both start at about the same price: €25 a month for Lovable Pro, $25 for Bolt Pro. Bolt's free plan gives more room to try (1M tokens a month against up to 30 credits). What you pay depends on usage: Lovable counts messages, Bolt counts tokens.
Lovable vs Bolt for a non-technical founder?
Both keep you in a chat and a preview and host the app. Lovable's chat, plan and build modes and its GitHub sync make the handover to a developer simple; Bolt's free tokens make it easy to experiment. Try the same prompt in both.
Do Lovable and Bolt include a database and login?
Yes. Lovable Cloud includes a Postgres database, authentication and storage; Bolt Cloud includes unlimited databases and user management with authentication.
Can I start from Figma?
Bolt can start a project from a Figma file, a GitHub repository or a team template. Lovable starts from a prompt, with design systems on paid plans.
Lovable vs Bolt vs Replit?
All three build hosted web apps from a prompt. Replit adds a full code workspace, mobile apps and parallel agents, and bills extra Agent work by effort. Our Replit vs Lovable comparison goes through it in detail.
